Afterword

First, I’ve listened to indie podcasts and radiotopia and prx and cbc and bbc podcasts and library audiobooks forever, for hours a day for decades. I’ve never put that side of me in a game before.

First, i’d never have made this game if [bxllet> jxm hadn’t happened or if [bxllet> hadn’t presented itself as the question “go extinct” to reply only to “yes, but how”.

First, every time i’ve driven, rode, tooled, carted, hitchhiked, or rideshared, the desert roads have always been my favorite part. The way it devours music and finally. The way it at night explodes. The way its rivers are fog. The way it rips your clothes off. The way it squeezes the importance of everything you’ve ever done for anyone out of you to turn it back into steam. The way it lets you fall off a cliff. The feeling it lends some to not to.

First, Jana Irmert’s The Soft Bit

First, my favorite desert land art either culturally or critically by order of appearance:

ratioantarctic leninsahara solar ipodshoe tree

first, my soul

First, flip-flops in the snow a desert mountain elkshed behind a boulder on a cliff missing frozen waterfall

First, aaron lim’s An Altogether Different River introduced me to designer’s cut pdf notes and has a helpful set of actions that makes creating pdf notes a little less painless. I want to do this!

First, i love the charity randomizer rom hack streams. Check out their fundraising strategy if you haven’t already.

The ad spaces are meant to be auctionable by you, an audience, both between games and in realtime on a funding website while an actual play group plays together, where, the moment you donate the amount listed, you can write anything into the selected square on the selected card. To out bid the last person, for that square on that card, donate more to boot their entry out. To keep someone else’s entry square alive, donate more to it. Your square’s contents and price hike lasts either a month or a year since its last donation, depending on the tier you donate for.

Did you write the html to make the auctionability of the squares of the deck viable for streaming? Can i see it? i’d host a link to your code here. I’d shout praises to your mother(s) about how wonderful of a team/person you are.

The use i had in mind when i wrote it was to 1) invite “table talk” to tables that try to avoid, cut down, or mitigate that sort of thing but 2) also invite “table talk”-prone tables to incorporate their table talk a little more literally into their narrative. Some auxiliary uses are more obvious, room for affirmations and attention to someone’s scene, a way to create a notoriety system if your table’s used to that.

An in-game excuse to add anything you want any time you want into the scene by shooting a big old satellite down next to you. And an excuse to have that satellite crawl toward you with its servos’ last seconds of operation, touch your gun and whisper a name to the gun as though the satellite would recognize anywhere that metal composing it, and ask your gun how its been and how the satellite miised it and will be with it soon. Other uses.

documentation

“satellite reproduction cycle” - Brood X and Space X mixed together in my brain

“band of the billions of these satellites” - venus atmospheric high altitude water lifeforms data collection program + “space junk”

“satellites plant a seed” - 1) planets trade “ejecta” with one another; to sum, this means bits of most every planet in the solar system have hit earth. 2) tardigrades living inside meteors can survive forces created by meteor impacts

“violently erupt into any of a variety of public structures” - supercool water exploding into ice upon contact

“satellites can think” - MPU from Cowboy Bebop (please tell me about more examples, i want to read more stories using this concept)

“pirate radio” - oh my nerd, why would you want to know about that? I can’t, i just can’t. okay, maybe a little, like 5 links? okay 5 links: miami’s Raw, brooklyn mixtapes, radio being bought up by speculators, Joe Frank’s experimental radio, how conservatives took over am radio.

“read ad after bullet fired” - commercial breaks always come in at the scientifically worst time, this is even worse now with youtube’s new automated ad breaks which studies touch inputs, cursor movements and eye movements, fitbit readings subconscious motivations exactly.

“reads play on all frequencies” - surveillance capitalism

“corn maze of vehicle-sized triangles” - we stapled bed sheets in pointy angles to the ceiling, the bare floor, the walls, covered the floor with cousins and turned on the thrift store projector

“perfectly cylindrical tunnel” - natural rock arches + redwood tree tunnel boring

“furnished luxury suite hotel” - pun on boom town

“colossal chair” - that 1 guy that built some shade for their horses, but the mayor said the mayor was coming to tear it down because a building permit wasn’t licenced for it, so the guy added some more wood and called it a chair, transfoorming it in that moment into art and it was no longer legally a “structure” so it didn’t need a permit anymore.

“Dust settles” - grew up around dry lake beds with mud too thick to walk through

“fruit in the sun cooking glucose” - [our sun cooks desert watermelon glucose into big fat sugar crystals, think a geode or flooded cave but made of fruit] + omori

“Bug shaped like a jigsaw puzzle piece” - puzzle video games

“Sleeping gun that snores” - every pet

jesus, this is so much work. I think i’ll rather spend this time learning how to write a computer program to scrap my data history and splice it into my writing sry. Any phrase you want to know about, know there’s lore, only ask 🤍🤍🤍
